Mr Opulence: Roberto Cavalli

The paintings, colours, artworks, and the history of the city of Florence in the Renaissance period must have inspired the Fall/Winter 2013-2014, of Roberto Cavalli.  The richness of the city walls, the precious artifacts, elaborate brocades have been revoked and rediscovered by Roberto Cavalli so much so that it is all there in his clothes.  Roberto Cavalli must have been inspired by the likes of Botticelli and Donatello, only two of the countless of  the Florentine  artists

The frescoes that adorn the historical buildings of this magnificent city are mostly depicted with all their colours in his creations.  Roberto Cavalli has recreated and reproduced these treasures, translating the prints and colours  of yellows and the reds, without being elaborate.  Other colours like deep reds, the earth colour, sapphires and emeralds are some of the colours also used by these creative Florentine Maestroes.

The clothes are simple in line, just clinging to the body, and straight at the bottom. Some of the dresses are tubular and the length is above the knee. Most of  the dresses are slightly flowing and arrive mid-thigh.  Most of these dresses are elaborately decorated and enriched with prints and embroideries.  His creations seem to walk out of the frescoes of the Battistero and the historical buildings.

Lace is prominent this season, as was in the last.  Embroideries and prints are seen at the waist, hem and neck lines.  Black dominates the dresses and the skirts are slim, with slits.

I love coats and I immersed myself catching all the details, being careful not to miss anything.  His coats are mostly tweed, straight or fitted with animal prints.  The jackets are simple and straight.

Back packs and money pouches featured heavily in this collection.  The totes were adorned with precious materials and enriched with details.  Shoes had that Florentine features, they looked comfortable, as they had chunky heels, complementing the bags.  The jewellery featured the snake, which is the symbol of the Maison Cavalli

I enjoyed so much watching the show, that I decided to write about it.  It is worth watching, as it will help you build and stock your wardrobe in the coming weeks.  It is so opulent.
