Mr Opulence: Roberto Cavalli

The paintings, colours, artworks, and the history of the city of Florence in the Renaissance period must have inspired the Fall/Winter 2013-2014, of Roberto Cavalli.  The richness of the city walls, the precious artifacts, elaborate brocades have been revoked and rediscovered by Roberto Cavalli so much so that it is all there in his clothes.  Roberto Cavalli must have been inspired by the likes of Botticelli and Donatello, only two of the countless of  the Florentine  artists

The frescoes that adorn the historical buildings of this magnificent city are mostly depicted with all their colours in his creations.  Roberto Cavalli has recreated and reproduced these treasures, translating the prints and colours  of yellows and the reds, without being elaborate.  Other colours like deep reds, the earth colour, sapphires and emeralds are some of the colours also used by these creative Florentine Maestroes.

The clothes are simple in line, just clinging to the body, and straight at the bottom. Some of the dresses are tubular and the length is above the knee. Most of  the dresses are slightly flowing and arrive mid-thigh.  Most of these dresses are elaborately decorated and enriched with prints and embroideries.  His creations seem to walk out of the frescoes of the Battistero and the historical buildings.

Lace is prominent this season, as was in the last.  Embroideries and prints are seen at the waist, hem and neck lines.  Black dominates the dresses and the skirts are slim, with slits.

I love coats and I immersed myself catching all the details, being careful not to miss anything.  His coats are mostly tweed, straight or fitted with animal prints.  The jackets are simple and straight.

Back packs and money pouches featured heavily in this collection.  The totes were adorned with precious materials and enriched with details.  Shoes had that Florentine features, they looked comfortable, as they had chunky heels, complementing the bags.  The jewellery featured the snake, which is the symbol of the Maison Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli A/W 2013 Collection

I enjoyed so much watching the show, that I decided to write about it.  It is worth watching, as it will help you build and stock your wardrobe in the coming weeks.  It is so opulent.

When a Wedding is in the morning - What to Wear ?

Most of us enjoy going to weddings and the idea trills us, until we start panicking on what to wear.  We all want to look our best, and more so to outdo all the invitees.   Whether the wedding is in the morning, afternoon evening summer/winter,  all the rules of dress code (some made up, some real), let us admit it making head or tail of the whole thing can be  a bit headache.

Morning Weddings.
In this blog I would also be  touching on the subject of  hats although most do not bother to wear a hat at all.
It is obvious that for a Spring/Summer morning wedding, neutral colours, beige, brown, camel, pastel colours and even white must not be omitted.  Speaking for myself I do wear white even black, for weddings be they in the morning, evenings, summer or winter.   Most people rule out wearing white completely because of the bride.  (which for me is ridiculous, as the bridal wear is more elaborate than a simple dress or outfit).  Black is also a favourite of mine.  Although mostly disagree with me.  In actual fact most people favour wearing pastel colours.  Rightly so, but enrich the pastel colours with something that will make it stand out, bold make up, a huge brooch, or other chunky jewels. Patterns can also be used and can really add some statement to the look. Do go for shorter/ mid - length dresses for this type of wedding rather than long ones.
When choosing a dress or an outfit do take extra care to take into account your body shape.  The dress has to be  suitable for your body shapes whether with very large busts, (avoid low plunging necklines) those with  pear shaped figures, has to avoid body hugging dresses. With a little advice from the shop attendants one can easily pick a suitable dress, that complements and balances your body proportions.
A skirt suit is a good idea to wear for a morning wedding.  These flatter a mature woman, over fifty years of age.  Those with pear shaped figures should not opt for these suits.  For the young slim woman, a short cocktail dress is a good choice.  Polka dots are classics for weddings, paired with a Spanish hat.

Hats, shoes and handbags have to match and complement the outfit.  Just look at Philip Treacy hats and try to match one for your morning wedding.  These can easily be hired.  Clutches and small handbags are the most suited for morning weddings.  Do not give up on high heeled shoes.  Choose a pair that is comfortable and that flatters your dress.  You might be standing on your feet 4 to 5 hours, but mostly everyone can bear a bit of discomfort.

LBD

It is well known that every woman should have an LBD (little black dress) in her wardrobe. Most people agree while others may disagree, but it is quite appropriate that women should have a good dress to use for any occasion. Whether it’s a birthday party, a soiree, a piano recital, or a wedding, every girl has the right to look her best and stand out in her dress. Many argue that having a dress or two is just an unnecessary expense since most dresses are basically expensive. There is no need to panic as there are a lot of ways on how you can have that perfect budget friendly dresses for any occasion.

Recycle – Some girls want to have a new gown for each occasion, me included. The gown used the other month for a friend’s bridal party may not look so appropriate for a friend’s birthday party next week. Girls would want to buy dresses each year. These might sound good, but these moves are totally expensive, especially if you buy it from department stores and boutiques. However, you can definitely cut down expenses by using the same dress again for another event. For one, it’s just a one-time event and your friends will not notice that you used the same gown last month or last year because they’ll be too busy to mingle and socialize with other people. Secondly, the party will only last for a few hours and not for a few days where there is a dire need to really change dresses. Conversely, you can make the gown look different by customizing it. Adding tulle, laces, sequins and beads; cutting its hem short; taking out its cap sleeves; and adding ribbons; are some of the most basic creative moves that you can do to make the dress look different. You can check out online or browse from your favorite fashion magazines to get inspirations in salvaging an old gown. Some ways include cutting a floor-length gown and replace its skirt with knee-length tulle or adding ribbon and beads to boring areas of the gown. Customize your old anyhow you want it and you’ll be wearing a perfect dress without eating into your savings.

An alternative option would be renting a gown which is another way of acquiring a beautiful dress at budget-friendly prices. Rental shops that offer a wide array of dresses for different occasions are apparently growing in number worldwide since people these days are more aware of its benefits.. Obviously, a rental shop can offer more than one or two dresses to choose from, giving you ideas on how you would like to look on the event. Apart from that, bigger number of selections means bigger chances of being able to pick the gown that one may be dreaming about; not to mention that most rental shops may have designer dresses at very cheap rates.

Another option is to scout the cheap stores.  Whether you are looking for a beautiful dress or casual attire for an upcoming event, visiting these stores is always a good option, although it may not be applicable to all shoppers. First of all, shopping at places like these require enough time, strength, and creativity. One would probably feel lost or out of place shopping in a deluge of sizes and styles, but one would be looking into a long line of dresses and clothes that have minor flaws. So you need to have plenty of time to double check the items that you may pick.  Apart from that, most of these shops sell tons of items from house supplies, decors, clothes, footwear, and to just about anything under the sun. The thing is that you might end up buying more than one dress attracted by the cheap prices on offer. Despite all these, it is worth the celebration when you are able to pick a beautiful piece as most of these shops sell Valentino’s, Wang’s, and many other designer dresses at heavily discounted prices.

Real or Fake?

Some of you have been asking me lately from where to buy designer handbags without having to break the bank. Although, it may seem as the ideal time to try to find a real discount/bargain/deal during sales, it's even harder though as most of these branded items become sold out within seconds.

First of all, there are some things that one needs to be aware of, especially when buying online as there are some real risks and pitfalls.

1. Price Tags which are too good to be true

"99.9% of the time, if you are purchasing a designer handbag on ebay, its going to be fake."
(Read more: The Harsh Reality of Buying Designer Handbags on Ebay)

Especially for Ebay Buyers:
  • Study pictures very closely and if in doubt, ask for additional ones. Remember that most often than not sellers copy or use photos from the brands websites.
  • Check the seller's feedback and return policy
  • Also check what other items the seller is selling or has already sold and what was the buyer's feedback in such case.
  • Get suspicious also when the seller has many items of the same kind/style/model to sell
  • Check for recognition of Paypal Verified or Powerseller seal on the auctions

2. Scam & fraudulent Websites

Most often than not these websites market that they sell designer/branded items at very cheap/low prices. DO NOT be Fooled by such websites.  What I usually do is first of all I Google "scam" together with the name of the website and you will be amazed at the number of search results Google may find.

3. Always Read Reviews

If there are any, read both the positive and the negative as they are important. (Sometimes items are even star rated) First of all you get an idea of what you are buying, straight from the horse's mouth. There are even websites & forums that review and rate purses and handbags such as Purseblog.com

4. Affiliate Websites

Always check first by email/phone with the brand/designer website whether they have any affiliate accounts/programs/links with the seller/website from where you are buying so as to verify whether or not he is authorized to sell these products.

Check also the following website for some good tips on how to spot a fake designer handbag

Well, even Karl Lagerfield has once admitted that it's difficult to tell the difference between real and fake Chanel. No wonder, we come to a dilemma whether we purchase the object or not or whether we are making a good buy!

The following is the list of some of the most popular websites which sell designer goods:

Let us know if you have found our tips helpful. Also, please share if you know of any other websites that could be helpful to others who are looking for bargain purchases.

It's all about Accessories!

Who wouldn't love to own a Hermes Birkin bag, a LV bag or a Mulberry bag? Unfortunately though they are too expensive for anyone to buy unless you are not a Kardashian (I think they own a Hermes in every color)  or maybe a Beckham. On the other hand, I am not the type of person who buys fake/counterfeits LV just for the sake of having one. I hate fakes, I prefer to buy similar/inspired garments from high street fashion stores rather then buying counterfeit ones.

And does this makes me less fashionable or maybe less glamorous? no way!!

I admit it, I can't resist the temptation to give a second glance when I see someone carrying an LV bag or wearing any type of designer garment. Yes, I think like anyone else who has fashion at heart I am fascinated by anything that is branded. But I also think, anyone can look glamorous, sophisticated or chic. It all depends on how we portray our style by means of our clothes, sometimes it even boils down on how we accessorize our look.

Accessories add "spice" to our look.

Handbags - The handbag is a MUST for me.  I cannot imagine myself going out without one. Sometimes  even the way one wears/carries IT adds style to our look.

Beyoncé Knowles, Angelina Jolie, Cynthia Nixon aka Miranda Hobbes and Leann Rimes carrying Alexander McQueen "Elvie" Tote Handbag
Alexander McQueen Elvie Python Tote

Belts - It's amazing how a simple belt can totally modify and transform your outfit and you can wear it nearly with anything (sweaters, dress, denim, blazer, cardigans, etc...).

Celebrities wearing belts

Scarves - I love scarves and I have so many of them. Whether worn around the neck, waist or head simply jazz up your look.

Jessica Alba

Jewelry - According to Harper Bazaar "nothing can add oomph to your wardrobe like jewelry"!

"Big or small, real or fake, understated or over-the-top, jewelry lifts the spirits. It also lifts a look. Colorful beads or chandelier earrings could be just the thing to make an ordinary outfit outstanding".

Jewelry - over a collared shirt

On a final note, one does not need to spend a lot of money on clothes, bags etc.. to look trendy and stylish but one can keep up with the current trends by just using accessories to achieve various looks and to adapt to different occasions.

(And I am sure that many of you out there agree with me on this one!!)
